Happily Ever After
Disney movies always have the message “Happily Ever After” in them. The princess gets the prince. The dog gets the dog and has a family.
I know these movies are meant for kids, but is it good to promote this message all of the time. Not everything in life is rainbows, sunshine, love and flowers. It’s not easy to live your dream. It’s not easy to find the love of your life.
As you get older, you learn the real truth about life: not to have high expectations. Why? Because when you think something will be so great and it turns out it isn’t, it’s the biggest letdown. That’s why I enjoy being a pessimist. Then when things go better than I expected, it’s a nice little surprise that makes me smile.
Happily Ever After….what happens after you get your dream, that is if you are one of the lucky people to get theirs? What happens after the big fancy wedding? What comes next? Disney never shows you how the husband farts a lot and cheats on his wife and the wife spends a lot of money and drinks all of the time. Yes, this is a worst case scenario, but just like every dream doesn’t come out perfect, not every marriage is perfect.
I’m not married yet, but I know that marriage takes a lot of respect and commitment.
I hope when I have children someday, I can teach them the good and bad things about life. I don’t want to shelter them in any way. I want to show them that life is a lot of twist and turns but you can overcome issues. You can overcome a bad job, a bad relationship, a bad living situation.
