Becoming involved
A few posts ago, I wrote about volunteering. Mostly I wrote about a bad experience I had about volunteering.
Recently I joined an organization that holds activities that raises money for a scholarship fund and other community organizations that need help.
I’ve only been to one club meeting, but it felt good to be part of something positive. Throughout the past year, I haven’t seen my friends and family as much because I moved about an hour and a half away. I’ve lost connection to some of my friends. I’ve made friends at work which is good, but sometimes you just want to leave work at work.
Being part of a civic organization makes me feel good because I know I’ll be helping someone that wants to go to school, but can’t afford it and I feel like I’ll make some new friends.
I was excited to hear about the activities coming up in the spring. I feel like I have some ideas to contribute.
I encourage all of you to become involved in something. I know work eats up a lot of time, but find a way to join something that will help you be social, whether it’s a sports team, area club or participating in American Cancer Society events like Relay for Life.
I did Relay for Life last summer and it was a lot of fun. We’re already planning on how to raise money for this year’s event. The photo above is from the Relay for Life event I attended. The theme was “Imagine.” It was so inspirational.
