Going out

As for those of you who have been to college and were the partying type, you know how it feels to party at least three times a week, if not more.

Once you get into “the real world,” partying just doesn’t come as easy as it used to. Being able to close out the bar and stay up until 3 a.m. is a task sometimes.

In college, partying for me was like clockwork. Friday would definitely be party night. And so was Saturday. Saturday it was a little easier to party because I built up some tolerance from Friday. I remember for a time, I’d party on Wednesdays too.

This weekend was the first time I went to a real bar in a really long time. When I say “real bar” I mean the kind that you have to wait in line for people to check your IDs and the kind that are the real party places.

I think I drank two beers at a friend’s house and then some beer at the bar. (Not much because it tasted really bad. Like beer and tootsie roll combined. Ugh.) I certainly didn’t drink enough water last night before I went to sleep because I really felt it today.

After I went to an event Sunday morning (I went to sleep around 3:30 a.m. and then got up at 9 a.m. too early for a Sunday) I came home and took a three-hour nap. I still feel kind of tired, groggy and hungover.

I guess I’m showing my age but oh well. I had a lot of fun last night because I’m not used to going out like I did. I remember going out was a big thing in college: spent a lot of time doing my makeup and curling my hair. Picking out an outfit was always an ordeal. Now, it’s all about throwing on the nice shirt, putting on makeup and just going naturally straight with the hair.

And I’m glad I didn’t make a fuss that night I went out this past weekend because we had to walk in the rain to the bar. It’s funny to see the girls wearing dresses that have to be out in the rain. And the girls that are wearing spandex. So not flattering.

I’d like to go out to a real bar soon but I’m glad it’s not a weekly event. Sometimes it feels good to stay in and watch a movie. You don’t have to wait in line for a drink.
