Rebellion

Published by loislane26 under youth Edit This

I’m sure that everyone rebels against their parents at some point. Well, if they don’t, then it must be some kind of miracle.

Since I was the youngest of two children, I got away with more than my older sibling.

When I was 17, I wanted to get a belly button ring so badly. Some of my friends had their bellies pierced so I thought it was cool. My parents didn’t like the idea very much. I’ve heard that belly piercings can get infected more often because of sweat and what not. I guess it’s just a difficult thing to keep clean.

After I turned 18, I went to a tattoo/piercing parlor and told the one girl that worked there that I wanted to get my belly button pierced. She took one look at my stomach and told me it wasn’t a good idea. She said that I was so skinny that the piercing would tear or something like that. I was so bummed!

I was determined to get something pierced so I decided that I’d switch to my eyebrow a week later. I remember I was really nervous because I didn’t know how it was going to feel. I don’t like needles either. I closed my eyes and held my breath. The needle stung a bit but before I knew it, it was over. I was pierced!

I drove home, walked into the living room where my parents were sitting and asked “Guess what?”

They replied “You got your belly button pierced.”

They had not even seen the eyebrow piercing!

I showed them the piercing and they were actually relieved about it. They really hated belly piercings.

I enjoyed having my eyebrow pierced. People thought I was punk but I wasn’t really trying to go for that image.

I had the piercing for about 6 months until I had to waitress. (The manager made me take out my spacer, the clear plastic thing you can use while you’re working.) Then,  it was as though I was piercing my eyebrow every day to get the ring or barbell through so I gave up. It’s difficult to be a working professional and have an eyebrow piercing so I guess I’m ok with not having it now.
