 Holidays and periods of after holiday times can make us feel really lonely if we are single. (Single as in not dating anyone.)

I hardly ever had a boyfriend during Christmas or Valentine’s Day in the past. But I’m happy and working on settling now since I am engaged. I suppose I am lucky to have met my husband to be in college.

College is a great time to meet potential significant others, but don’t just settle for whoever comes along. I didn’t meet my fiancé until junior year. I had time to meet a lot of guys in those years and have two relationships.

Some people feel like they are under pressure to meet someone in college. Even if you do meet someone in college, how are you going to stay together after you both graduate? Also, it’s important to put a career first in most situations.

My brother did not meet his wife in college. He met her through www.match.com. Before he met my sister-in-law, he met a girlfriend on the site. That relationship lasted a month, but hey at least he was meeting people.

My sister-in-law told us stories about people wanting to set her up before she met my brother and the people she met online from Match.com. She said one guy posted a picture that wasn’t him at all. He used his brother’s picture.

Keep in mind, it may take a few meetings to find a compatible date.

If I had not met my fiancé in college, I may have tried online dating Web sites. The key thing to keep in mind is meet your date in a public place. I wouldn’t go to a guy’s house to meet him.

Try a group date for your first date. That way your friends can kind of feel out the person. You may not want to have loads of your friends because that may be intimidating, but just a few will do.

I have suggested online dating to one of my friends but she shot it down. She’s still single and I don’t want to hear her whining about it because she doesn’t try anything.

So to all of you people who are looking for someone, get out there and take a chance!
